Hi. I’m Brent Probinsky of the law firm of Probinsky & Cole. Many times people have come to me and said, “I have full coverage on my auto insurance. Is that enough?”
Every time they say the word “full coverage,” I’m very concerned because full coverage, the coverage of your car and not you, the passengers in your car or the people who you might injure if you’re negligent.
It’s very important to ask your insurance agents for the right insurance, to buy the right insurance. Oftentimes, the right insurance, good insurance doesn’t cost much more than minimum insurance that you will buy under law.
Full coverage covers your car. Who covers the persons in your car, yourself, if somebody else injures you or if you injure somebody else in another vehicle or a pedestrian? That’s bodily injury. If you injure someone else and the people in your car, including yourself, are covered by uninsured motorist. A lot of people who drive don’t have insurance or don’t have a very high level of insurance and so by uninsured motorist which covers yourself for the negligence of others.
What limits should you buy? Always buy as much as you can. Uninsured motorist, UM, 25,000, 50,000, 100,000, what you can afford, as much as you can afford. Bodily injury, the same. Buy 25,000, 50,000, 100,000, 500,000, what you can afford and you will find it’s not much more than buying a policy with only full coverage, which is for your car.
Brent Probinsky, law firm of Probinsky & Cole, we’re always happy to help you. Thank you.
