Hi. My name is Zachary Cole with Probinsky & Cole. One common question we get is, “Can I receive compensation for future medical bills and future expenses that I might have because of my injuries from my accident?”
The answer to that is yes, you can and you absolutely should and that’s one thing you definitely need to think about anytime you are considering settling a case because insurance companies try to pay as little as possible to get out of these claims.
So say you herniated several discs in your spine and you’re 50 years old and you have pain from it. Your doctor is treating it. You know you’re going to have treatment in the future because your spine – you’re not getting any younger. Your spine is going to naturally deteriorate over time.
So you need to think about what that is going to cost in the future and that should be a part of your settlement or that should be a part of the jury verdict that we would or any other competent attorney would ask for at a jury trial.
One other thing that we often do is hire an expert to opine on this. We would get a medical expert and maybe a life care planner if the injury was serious enough to opine as to what exactly your future expenses would be because they can be a lot in many circumstances.
If you or anyone you know has been involved in an accident, please give us a call at 941-371-8800. Thank you.
